The Government of Assam, Department of School Education, has released the official notification for the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) – 2026 for Lower Primary and Upper Primary levels. The examination will be conducted for Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar mediums as per Section 23 of the RTE Act, 2009 and NCTE guidelines.
Online applications are invited from permanent residents of Assam who intend to appear in Paper I (Lower Primary) and Paper II (Upper Primary) of Special TET 2026.

Purpose of Special Assam TET 2026
Considering the shortage of respective Language-I (L-1) teachers in a considerable number of Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar medium elementary schools of the State, applications are invited for Special Assam TET–2026.

The qualified candidates of Special Assam TET will be eligible to participate in the recruitment process for the teacher post of elementary level schools provided they have other academic and professional qualification as per NCTE norms.
Eligibility Criteria
Permanent Residency
The candidate must be a permanent resident of the State of Assam.
Academic and Professional Qualification
The candidate must possess minimum academic and professional qualification as per NCTE norms.

Minimum Qualification for Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V)
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)

OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR
Graduation and two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
Minimum Qualification for Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII)
Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
At least 50% marks in Graduation and B.Ed.
OR
At least 55% marks in Post Graduation or equivalent grade and three year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed. or B.A. Ed./B.Sc. Ed.
OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)
Note: Minimum percentage of marks in graduation shall not be applicable to those incumbents who had already taken admission prior to 29th July, 2011.
Relaxation
Relaxation up to 5% in academic marks in HSSLC or Graduation shall be applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD (PH).
The degree of handicap in case of PH candidates should be minimum 40% and certified by the competent authority.
